Large Animal Veterinary Assistant

Job Overview Join our dynamic team as a Large Animal Veterinary Assistant and become a vital part of providing exceptional care to livestock and equine patients. Duties Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and treatments of large animals such as cattle, horses, and other livestock Handle and restrain animals safely using appropriate restraint techniques to ensure both animal and team safety Administer vaccinations, medications, and treatments under veterinary supervision following proper aseptic techniques Support animal husbandry tasks including feeding, grooming, cleaning stalls, and maintaining overall cleanliness of the facility Prepare equipment and supplies for procedures, including setting up surgical areas and laboratory testing stations Maintain accurate records of treatments, medications administered, and patient progress in compliance with clinic protocols Assist with laboratory procedures such as sample collection and processing to aid in diagnostic testing Maintain veterinary and animal handling equipment; and general building and facilities maintenance of the Large animal barn Qualifications Prior animal care background preferred; experience working with Livestock is highly valued, familiarity with use of hydraulic livestock equipment Equine experience including horse handling, hoof care, and understanding of equine physiology Strong knowledge of animal husbandry practices and pet care fundamentals Experience as a veterinary assistant and familiarity with veterinary terminology is advantageous Hands-on experience with animal restraint, medication administration, and animal handling techniques Excellent communication skills for front desk duties such as client interaction and appointment scheduling Knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology necessary for effective patient care Ability to perform physical labor including repeatedly lifting and carrying 50lbs. Ability to work in challenging environmental conditions inherent with working and caring for livestock; Including noise, dust, rain, and extremes in heat and cold.
