Job Overview - Veterinary Assistant We are seeking an energetic, compassionate, and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our urgent care team. This role is essential in supporting veterinarians and technicians while delivering high-quality, efficient care in a fast-paced urgent care environment. Veterinary Assistants at Urgent Paws play a hands-on role in patient care, client communication, and team support, helping ensure a smooth and positive experience for both patients and their families during stressful situations. Schedule & Availability Requirements Urgent Paws Veterinary Care is a 7-day-a-week practice , and weekend availability is an essential requirement of this position. Employees should expect to be scheduled for weekend shifts as part of their regular work schedule. Urgent Paws is open all holidays except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day . Employees should expect to work holidays when scheduled, with the exception of these two practice-closed holidays. Core Responsibilities- Assist with patient triage and obtain accurate, urgent-care-focused patient histories
- Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and other relevant parameters
- Safely and compassionately restrain patients for examinations, diagnostics, and treatments
- Assist with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures as directed by the veterinary team
- Clearly communicate treatment plans and discharge instructions to clients
- Maintain standards for hospital cleanliness
- Provide compassionate, empathetic support to clients during urgent and emotional situations Experience & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 18 years of age
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and efficiently use veterinary practice management software, electronic medical records, and other computer-based systems
- Previous veterinary assistant experience required; training will be provided
- Ability to work efficiently and remain calm in a fast-paced urgent care setting
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Positive, professional demeanor with a high level of empathy for clients and patients
- Commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality patient and client care Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely restrain, handle, and lift animals up to 50 pounds
- Able to bend/kneel, stoop, and be on your feet for 8 to 10 hours at a time
