Fluvanna Veterinary is a new small animal clinic opening this fall to serve the communities surrounding Palmyra. We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our team and help build a welcoming, efficient, and high-quality veterinary practice. Job Summary:

The Veterinary Technician Assistant plays a key role in supporting veterinarians and technicians in delivering outstanding patient care. Responsibilities include assisting with animal handling, preparing patients, maintaining a clean and organized clinic environment, and providing client education.

Key Responsibilities:

Animal Handling & Patient Care:

Assist veterinarians and technicians in restraining and handling animals during exams and procedures. Comfort and monitor animals before, during, and after treatments. Assist in preparing animals for surgery, including shaving and sterilizing surgical sites.

Technical & Clinical Support:

Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment. Set up exam rooms with necessary supplies before appointments. Assist with laboratory tests, sample collection (fecal, urine, etc.), and diagnostic imaging preparation. Prepare and dispense medications as instructed by the veterinarian.

Client Communication & Education:

Greet clients and assist with check-in and check-out procedures. Educate pet owners on basic care, post-treatment instructions, and preventative health measures. Answer client questions in a friendly, compassionate, and professional manner.

Clinic Maintenance & Sanitation:

Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment. Clean and disinfect exam rooms, waiting rooms, and treatment areas. Ensure that clinic supplies and medications are stocked and organized.

• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

• At least 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Technician Assistant (required). Strong animal handling and restraint skills . Compassionate and patient-focused attitude . Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures .
• Familiarity with veterinary practice management software is preferred.

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent (required).

• Certification or coursework in veterinary assisting is preferred but not required.

Experience in a small animal veterinary clinic (preferred).

Work Environment & Schedule:

Fast-paced, hands-on role in a new veterinary practice .

• Frequent animal handling and regular client interaction.
