Job Description

Join the Southwest Veterinary Surgical Service Team! At Southwest Veterinary Surgical Service (SVSS), our Veterinary Technicians play a vital role in delivering exceptional surgical and patient care. We are looking for compassionate, team-oriented professionals who are passionate about animal health, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy working alongside a skilled specialty surgical team. This position offers the opportunity to work with advanced surgical cases while building strong relationships with clients, patients, and fellow team members. What You'll Do As a Veterinary Technician at SVSS, you will support our veterinarians and surgical team through a variety of patient care responsibilities, including: Assisting with specialty surgical procedures and patient care Preparing patients for surgery, including surgical site preparation and anesthesia support Monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures Performing diagnostic laboratory testing and radiographs (x-rays) Placing IV catheters and administering medications and fluids Assisting with bandaging and wound care Updating patient records and maintaining accurate medical charts Filling prescriptions and supporting discharge instructions Educating pet owners on post-operative care and medications Maintaining and operating surgical and medical equipment Assisting with consult appointments when needed Our technicians are an important part of ensuring each patient receives safe, compassionate, and high-quality care throughout their surgical journey. What We're Looking For Successful candidates will have: A passion for veterinary medicine and patient care Strong communication and teamwork skills The ability to remain calm and organized in fast-paced or emergency situations Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, laboratory procedures, and patient handling Compassionate client service skills A willingness to learn and grow within a specialty practice Veterinary Technician certification, registration, or graduation from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technician program is preferred but not a requirement. Schedule & Flexibility SVSS is a specialty surgical practice, and emergency situations may occasionally arise. Team members participate in a rotating on-call schedule, which can include evening and weekend availability. This role may also require occasional travel between SVSS locations. Physical Requirements This role is active and hands-on. Team members should be comfortable with: Lifting and moving pets or equipment up to 50 pounds with or without assistance Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and moving throughout the hospital during shifts Working quickly and efficiently in emergency or critical care situations Safely handling animals of various sizes and temperaments Work Environment Veterinary medicine can be both rewarding and emotionally demanding. $21.00 - $27.80 per hour
