Job Description

ARISE Veterinary Center is seeking a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Anesthesia & Analgesia to serve as the hospital-wide leader for anesthesia care, safety, and clinical standardization. This role is a key clinical infrastructure position, responsible not only for supporting advanced cases, but for owning and managing anesthesia care across all departments, while building, implementing, and sustaining a best-in-class anesthesia program. The VTS will partner closely with DVMs, specialists, hospital leadership, and training teams to drive consistent, high-quality anesthetic care, elevate technician capability, and support continued growth of complex and high-acuity services. Key ResponsibilitiesHospital-Wide Anesthesia Leadership
  • Serve as the primary clinical authority on anesthesia practices across all departments
  • Establish and maintain hospital-wide standards for anesthesia protocols, monitoring, and recovery
  • Ensure alignment across all specialty departments.
  • Act as a central resource and escalation point for complex or high-risk anesthesia cases Anesthesia Case Management & Clinical Oversight
  • Lead and manage anesthesia for cases across all departments, with responsibility for anesthetic planning, execution, monitoring, and recovery
  • Partner closely with DVMs and specialists to develop patient-specific anesthetic plans while maintaining ownership of anesthesia management
  • Independently assess patient status and make real-time anesthesia decisions to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes
  • Provide hands-on support for complex, high-risk, and specialty procedures, including emergency and critical cases
  • Provide advanced anesthetic skills including but not limited to regional blocks, advanced vascular access, and alternative intubation techniques
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring standards are consistently applied and intervene as needed throughout the anesthetic event
  • Oversee and guide anesthesia-related decision-making for technicians supporting cases
  • Serve as the clinical authority for anesthesia-related decisions during procedures, in alignment with the attending DVM
  • Participate in or lead pre-anesthetic consults for high-risk or complex patients, in collaboration with the attending DVM, to review anesthetic approach, monitoring, and risk mitigation strategies with clients
  • Provide client-facing support as appropriate, helping to explain anesthesia processes, safety protocols, and recovery expectations in a clear, professional, and compassionate manner
  • Support a client experience that reflects confidence, transparency, and trust in anesthetic care Clinical Program Development & Quality Improvement
  • Design, implement, and continuously refine anesthesia SOPs, protocols, and workflows
  • Lead initiatives focused on patient safety, risk mitigation, and outcome improvement
  • Participate in case reviews, audits, and quality assurance processes
  • Evaluate and optimize anesthesia-related equipment, medications, and clinical practices Education, Training & Clinical Development
  • Serve as a hospital-wide educator and mentor for technicians and assistants
  • Partner with the MD and Head of Training & Development to: o Deliver in-hospital CE programming o Develop and maintain standardized training materials and competencies o Support onboarding and skill progression for clinical staff
  • Provide hands-on training in anesthesia techniques, monitoring, and patient care
  • Build a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and clinical excellence Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership
  • Work in close partnership with the Medical Director and Chief of Surgical Services to align on clinical standards and priorities
  • Collaborate with DVMs and specialists to ensure seamless integration of anesthesia into patient care plans
  • Support hospital leadership in advancing clinical initiatives and operational goals
  • Serve as a visible leader who promotes communication, accountability, and teamwork QualificationsRequired
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Anesthesia & Analgesia
  • Significant experience in specialty and/or emergency veterinary medicine
  • Advanced expertise in anesthetic protocols, monitoring, and pain management
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment Preferred
  • Experience in a multi-specialty or tertiary referral hospital
  • Demonstrated success in training, mentorship, and clinical program development
  • Experience developing or implementing clinical education programs or SOPs
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
