Job Summary Independent of supervision in a hospital setting, as a significant part of daily duties, responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis.
Provide paraveterinary technical support to the Small Animal Clinic Veterinarians. Responsible for the treatment of patients, blood bank support, student instruction, clinician support and facility support.

- For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.

Experience working in a Small Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician.
Experience administering medications.
Experience collecting blood.
Skill to independently provide intense moment to moment monitoring and reassessment of emergent, critically ill patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis. Preferred Qualifications Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
Experience catheterizing blood vessels and urinary track.
Experience in aseptic nursing and sterile techniques.

- Facility Care Department Overview The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis.
Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge. Our Small animal patient care service consists of highly qualified Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants. Quality patient care is our priority and we are here 24 hours a day 7 days a week to assist in the clinical teaching experience. The patient care service provides nursing care to a wide range of patients that include Neurology, Internal Medicine both Soft Tissue and Orthopedic cases. Small Animal Patient Care includes our Intermediate Care Ward (ICW) which is a step down from our Intensive care unit. The patient care team provides excellent care to our patients while having the opportunity to participate in the teaching experience for the veterinary students and gain valuable knowledge learning from our board-certified clinicians and faculty.
