Why? We are seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) to join our Cardiology department this year as we welcome our new Cardiologist! Be part of a truly innovative team in one of the largest cardiology departments in California with 3 Cardiologists, plus resident and intern! Provide state of the art veterinary nursing for patients, exceptional support for owners, and learn to be part of our Center for Advanced Veterinary Interventions (CAVI ™).
Technician Growth:
We care about setting our team up for long term success with our structured onboarding and Level Up program, led by Technician Trainers and Department Leads. This ensures that you are supported and get paid for the things you learn, increasing your skills and earning potential with each Level achieved. Support for pursuing your VTS is also provided with 3 VTS (with more up and coming!) already working across our ACCESS specialty teams. What you'll do:
Advanced Patient Care:
Go beyond basic vitals; think critically to evaluate complex patient trends, manage delicate fluid therapy or oxygen dependent patients, and proactively care for patients in congestive heart failure (CHF) or severe arrhythmia. You will utilize your advanced nursing skills to closely monitor critical cardiac parameters and act as a vigilant advocate for high-risk patients.
Anesthesia & Analgesia:
Confidently calculate precise medical dosages, manage complex CRIs, and execute exact dilutions. Safely run and monitor high-risk anesthesia for diagnostic or minimally invasive interventional procedures with the clinical confidence to utilize surgical ventilators and rapidly adjust protocols for cardiovascular decompensation.
Diagnostics & Imaging:
Assist with comprehensive cardiac workups by prepping and positioning patients for advanced diagnostics, including digital X-rays and echocardiograms, monitor ECG's, demonstrating an ability to recognize common arrhythmias, set up and download Holter/telemetry monitoring devices.
Compassionate Service & Collaboration:
Serve as an empathetic, communicative bridge between our specialists, referring veterinarians, and dedicated pet owners navigating stressful cardiac diagnoses or chronic disease management. You will obtain highly detailed medical histories, practice low-stress patient restraint, deliver clear client education on cardiac medications, and provide detailed patient rounds to ensure seamless, collaborative care during shift hand-offs and cross-department transfers. What we're looking for:
- Current Registered Veterinary Technician or on track to certification within next 12 months. VTS or interest in pursuing higher certifications in cardiology is a plus.
- Strong to advanced knowledge and experience around patient nursing care, medical math and pharmacology.
- Driven, collaborative team player eager to work in a progressive environment.
- A shared commitment to our guiding principles of quality, integrity, compassion and exceptional service.
