Job Description
TruVet Specialty & Emergency Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Oncology Technician (licensed RVT or highly experienced veterinary assistant) to support our growing oncology service. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys specialty medicine and wants to play a meaningful role in guiding patients and their families through cancer treatment with empathy and clinical excellence. What You'll Do In this role, you will work closely with the Oncology Veterinarian and hospital teams to provide exceptional patient care.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting oncology appointments including patient intake, diagnostics, and treatment coordination Preparing and administering chemotherapy in accordance with hospital protocols, OSHA guidelines, and USP <800> safety standards Monitoring patients throughout treatment and identifying any adverse reactions or clinical changes Placing and maintaining IV catheters, accessing ports, drawing blood, and collecting laboratory samples Assisting with staging diagnostics, imaging, and follow-up testing Providing patient support including comfort care, pain management assistance, and nutritional support Educating clients on treatment plans, medications, and at-home care instructions Maintaining detailed medical records and chemotherapy documentation Assisting with oncology inventory and proper handling and disposal of hazardous medications Collaborating with specialists, ER staff, technicians, and CSRs to ensure seamless patient care The ideal candidate is organized, emotionally intelligent, and comfortable working in a specialty medical environment.Qualifications include:
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) preferred, though experienced unlicensed technicians or assistants are encouraged to apply At least two years of experience in a veterinary hospital setting Experience with IV therapy, laboratory diagnostics, and patient monitoring Oncology or specialty experience is a plus but not required Excellent communication skills and attention to detail Ability to support clients compassionately during complex medical situations Compensation & Benefits We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support our team members and their professional growth.Benefits include:
