Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) Full-Time | On-Site Put Your Skills to Work Saving Lives Are you a Registered Veterinary Technician looking for a career where your expertise truly matters? What You'll Do As a Registered Veterinary Technician, you'll provide advanced clinical support and serve as a leader within the veterinary team.
Responsibilities include:
Performing blood draws, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, nursing care, and surgical preparation Assisting veterinarians during examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures Administering medications, treatments, and anesthesia under veterinary direction Calculating drug dosages and fluid rates accurately Performing in-house laboratory testing and radiographs Monitoring hospitalized patients and ensuring appropriate follow-up care Triaging incoming medical cases and prioritizing patient needs Providing care for animals in isolation, foster care, and recovery programs Maintaining accurate and detailed medical records Supporting vaccination and treatment protocols Monitoring and treating animals in specialized care areas, including parvovirus and ringworm wards Assisting with humane euthanasia procedures when necessary Training, mentoring, and supporting veterinary assistants, externs, and volunteers Serving as a role model by demonstrating best practices in patient care, safety, and clinical procedures Leadership Expectations As a certified veterinary professional, you'll be expected to serve as a leader within the department by: Sharing knowledge and technical expertise with coworkers Demonstrating proper medical techniques and patient care standards Assisting in the training and development of staff, volunteers, and externs Promoting a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning Leading by example and upholding the highest standards of veterinary medicine What We're Looking For Successful candidates are: Passionate about animal welfare and shelter medicine Highly skilled in veterinary nursing and anesthesia practices Calm, adaptable, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment Strong communicators who collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and the public Detail-oriented and committed to maintaining accurate medical records Natural mentors who enjoy helping others learn and grow Dedicated to HSPPR's mission, values, and lifesaving work
Qualifications Required:
Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited institution Current Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license Completion of a veterinary technician internship or at least one year of experience in a full-service veterinary hospital or animal shelter environment Valid Colorado driver's license with an insurable driving record
Preferred:
Shelter medicine experience Experience with high-volume surgery and anesthesia Experience mentoring or training others Schedule Full-time position Typically works four (4) 10-hour shifts per week Regular schedule includes at least one weekend day May include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on role that requires: Standing and walking for extended periods Frequent lifting and moving of animals and equipment weighing 25+ pounds and occasionally 40+ pounds Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching Working around animals, animal allergens, cleaning products, and varying environmental conditions Exposure to infectious disease wards, medical procedures, and shelter environments Why Join HSPPR?
