Job Description
Vet Technician River Valley Animal Center Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in animal care and veterinary practices, with the ability to provide exceptional support to veterinarians and ensure the well-being of our animal patients. This role requires a blend of technical skills and a genuine love for animals, making it essential for the successful candidate to be both knowledgeable and empathetic. Duties Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and procedures. Perform routine laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging, including X-rays. Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by veterinarians. Provide proper animal restraint and handling techniques to ensure safety for both staff and animals. Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of patient care. Educate pet owners on proper animal care, nutrition, and post-treatment instructions. Monitor animal vital signs and behavior during procedures and recovery. Assist with dental cleanings and procedures using veterinary terminology. Ensure cleanliness of the clinic environment, including sterilization of instruments using aseptic techniques. Support kennel operations by caring for animals in boarding or recovery. Requirements Proven experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a similar role within the veterinary field. Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and husbandry practices. Experience with animal catheterization, restraint techniques, and handling various species including dogs, cats, and equines. Familiarity with dental terminology and procedures related to pet care. Ability to perform laboratory tests accurately with attention to detail. Excellent communication skills for interacting with pet owners and veterinary staff. A passion for animal welfare coupled with strong problem-solving abilities. Previous experience in veterinary critical care is a plus but not mandatory.
