Job Description

Technician Responsibilities:
Provides compassionate care to patients Prepares and maintains the exam rooms and treatment areas Assists the doctor in medical, surgical, and dental procedures by preparing patients for procedures/surgery, administering and monitoring anesthesia, monitoring and caring for patients during procedures/surgery and recovery, administering fluids Properly cleans all surgical materials after they are used, keeps the operating room clean, properly stocked, and prepared for surgery Gives injections and administers oral medications in accordance with hospital policy Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as heartworm checks and blood draws for laboratory tests Possesses knowledge and ability to properly restrain patients as necessary Takes digital radiographs Admits and discharges patients on the doctor's orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state upon discharge and counsels clients on various aspects of animal care, explains dosage/purpose of medications, reinforces the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home, makes follow-up calls to clients Understands usage and dosage for all prescription and non-prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients Maintains an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies Assists other staff members as required/needed Understands and carries out oral and written directions Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees
Position Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent Veterinary Technician Certification desirable but not required Previous Veterinary Technician experience Able to multi-task in a busy hospital environment Able to stay late when needed

Genuinely enjoys working with people and animals Able to deliver appropriate and compassionate care as well as remain professional and positive when handling clients and patients who are stressed, ill, or in pain Able to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis Able to work effectively with doctors Able to work effectively with and in the constant presence of other staff members and clients Experienced in the teamwork approach and able to work well with all hospital staff members Excellent client communication skills Able to lift and carry animals (assistance will be provided for heavier patients), walk/stand for extended periods of time, and frequently work in a bent position
