Job Description:
The University of Florida Large Animal Hospital is recruiting 2-3 Veterinary Assistants to work Sundays through Saturdays. This is a position that requires a motivated, well-organized, and caring individual along with ability to stand for long periods of time and frequent kneeling and lifting of 50 lbs. Experience in handling horses is preferred, but experience with other large farm animal species will be considered. As a member of our staff, this individual will provide assistance for client services, help veterinary technicians with patient handling and restraint, supply stock, care for equipment, and clean. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Move, handle and restrain patients, including loading and unloading from transport
  • Admit and discharge patients
  • Escort visiting clients
  • Feed, hand walk, graze, and groom patients
  • Set up, break down, and clean equipment and exam areas
  • Clean stalls and maintain a clean/sanitary and functionally organized clinical service area
  • Maintain supply inventory and replenish stock
  • Laundry
  • Utilize chemical cleaning and disinfection agents in a safe manner
  • Monitor, record, and report physical signs of patients
  • Administer topical treatments and hydrotherapy
  • Assist in minor procedures and treatments
  • Collect samples (including Salmonella) and submit lab requests
  • Verify and enter charges into computerized medical record
  • Collect payments/deposits Shifts are typically 8 hours and available during days for weekends, and evenings for weekdays and weekends.
Differentials are eligible for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Hourly rate is $15.00-16.50/hr, based on experience and shift. Health insurance may be available.
