Job Description
Positions available for all experience levels. Peterson Smith Equine Hospital + Complete is one of the most highly recognized equine practices in the United States, providing a diverse range of services, which include ambulatory care, surgery options, internal medicine, sports medicine and 24/7 emergency care. We are looking to immediately add an experienced Equine Veterinary Technician to our patient care team. We are looking for candidates who share our passion for delivering high-quality care to our equine patients. Due to the high case volume of the practice our veterinary equine technicians are required to care for and provide treatments for a vast array of equine breeds. The ideal candidate must have excellent horse handling skills and prior experience administering medications and treating equine illnesses and injuries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities for this position: Responsible for all aspects of daily horse care while the patient is at the clinic, including treatments, feeding, watering, grooming, hand walking and turn outs. Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostic testing, treatments, horse handling and restraint. Use aseptic technique to prepare sites for injections, intravenous catheterization etc. Set up and maintain diagnostic and imaging equipment. Prepare and administer medications and provide appropriate wound care. Set up IV's, catheters and treatment carts. Prep patients for surgery. Collect, prepare and label various biological specimens for laboratory testing. Accurately record patient information on paper and computerized treatment charts. Discharge patient in accordance with company's established policy and properly trailer load the patient. Adhere to all biosecurity protocols, such as the correct use of protective gear, proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments, equipment and work areas, and appropriate disposal of used material and waste.
Required Skills :
Prior experience providing medical care to horses. Excellent horse-handling experience and general horse knowledge. Adaptable and flexible to adjust to different doctor and patient needs. Must be able to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in all types of weather. Able to lift up to 50lbs. Must be able to follow both written and oral treatment directions.Schedule:
This is a full-time position schedule to work Wed- Fri from 7:30am
- 6pm and Sat from 7am
- 7pm.
