Job Title:
Animal Lab Technician Job Description The Animal Lab Technician provides daily care and health monitoring for animals used in protein production, with a focus on egg-laying animals. This role follows standard operating procedures and good documentation practices while organizing, cleaning, and maintaining production rooms, enclosures, supplies, and equipment. The technician supports overall facility operations by ensuring a clean, compliant, and well-documented environment that promotes animal health and welfare within a cGMP setting. Responsibilities Provide daily care and health monitoring of animals, including egg layers, in accordance with established procedures. Sanitize animal rooms, enclosures, equipment, corridors, and support areas using appropriate techniques to promote animal health, welfare, and regulatory compliance. Provide nutrition to animals by supplying feed and water according to defined schedules and procedures. Organize, clean, and maintain animal enclosures, production rooms, supplies, and equipment to support efficient facility operations. Assess animal health status by observing animals, gathering data, and documenting findings accurately. Initiate and maintain records as prescribed by standard operating procedures, ensuring good documentation practices. Collect and record facility and animal-related data to support effective management of the facility. Handle and restrain animals using appropriate techniques to allow care and procedures to be performed in a safe and humane manner. Provide weekend and/or holiday animal care coverage as needed to support continuous operations. Cross-train in all areas of the facility and provide coverage on an as-needed basis. Oversee packaging of waste materials for incineration, ensuring proper procedures and safety guidelines are followed. Receive and properly process incoming shipments of supplies and materials, including verification and storage. Assist with special projects as assigned to support the goals of the protein production unit. Essential Skills One or more years of experience working in a laboratory animal facility or performing work in a cGMP environment. Practical experience with animal care, including feeding, watering, and daily health monitoring. Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and good documentation practices consistently. Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and humanely using appropriate techniques. Strong attention to detail in observing animals and accurately recording data. Ability to follow written standard operating procedures and maintain thorough records. Capability to perform routine cleaning and sanitization of animal rooms, enclosures, equipment, and support areas. High school diploma or equivalent. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate or bachelor's degree preferred. Experience working specifically in a laboratory animal facility is highly beneficial. Familiarity with cGMP standards and regulatory expectations in a production or laboratory environment. Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-trained team and provide coverage in multiple facility areas. Willingness to work weekends and holidays as part of a rotational schedule when needed. Strong organizational skills for maintaining supplies, equipment, and documentation. Ability to manage incoming shipments and waste packaging in accordance with established procedures. Work Environment This position operates in a laboratory animal and production facility that supports protein production using egg-laying animals. The schedule runs Sunday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with additional weekend or holiday coverage as needed. Work involves regular exposure to animal areas, including animal rooms, enclosures, corridors, and support spaces, as well as frequent cleaning and sanitization tasks using appropriate techniques and materials. The environment follows cGMP standards and requires strict adherence to standard operating procedures and documentation practices. Work may involve handling supplies, materials, and waste packaging for incineration, and requires comfort working around animals and in a structured, process-driven setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bogart, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr.
