Description Certified Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant Family Pet Animal Hospital Chicago, IL Full-time Who we are Family Pet Animal Hospital, a five-doctor, AAHA-accredited, Cat-Friendly certified, small animal practice in Chicago's lively Lincoln Park neighborhood, we have provided professional, compassionate and personalized medical care to the pets in our community for over 30 years. We are looking for a dynamic Certified Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant to complete out TEAM! Role Responsibilities Maintain welcoming, clean, and sanitary hospital conditions. Cleaning duties include, but are not limited to, cages, runs, floors, counters, laundry, dishes, equipment, hospital grounds (outdoor), and garbage management; Provide general patient care - feeding, walking, keeping cages/runs clean and comfortable; Perform physical assessments, record observations properly in the practice management software, and alert the veterinarian(s) if a patient's condition changes; Restrain patients for various medical procedures; Perform routine procedures including, but not limited to, administering vaccinations, nail trims, anal gland expression, and ear cleaning; Collect and process specimens for laboratory procedures; Take radiographs; Operate and maintain hospital equipment; Calculate and administer medications and fluids; Perform venipuncture and place IV catheters; Perform dental prophylaxis; Perform anesthetic induction and maintenance and surgical assistance; Discharge patients based on the veterinarian's instructions, ensuring that patients are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state; Educate clients regarding services, medication, treatment, general care, follow-up, and home care instructions; Educate and train other technicians and team members; Other duties and responsibilities assigned by your supervisor or manager.
