Job Description

Equine Veterinary Technician Acadiana Equine Hospital | Opelousas, Louisiana Based in Opelousas, Louisiana, we have the privilege of working with some of the finest horses in the region while serving a diverse clientele. Our services include reproductive medicine, breeding management, performance and sports medicine, critical care, and general equine healthcare. As a member of our team, you will work alongside experienced equine veterinarians, assisting with advanced diagnostics, surgery, sports medicine, ambulatory services, and emergency care for a diverse equine clientele. Position Summary The Equine Veterinary Technician provides technical support to veterinarians in both hospital and field settings. This position plays a critical role in patient care, client communication, diagnostic procedures, and maintaining the highest standards of veterinary medicine. Essential ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Treatment Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, lameness evaluations, and emergency procedures. Safely handle and restrain horses during medical and diagnostic procedures. Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians. Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in condition. Assist with patient recovery and ongoing nursing care. Diagnostics & Procedures Perform venipuncture and collect laboratory samples. Assist with digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, and other diagnostic procedures. Prepare patients and equipment for surgical procedures. Monitor anesthesia and recovery when assigned. Maintain accurate treatment records and laboratory documentation. Client Service Communicate professionally and compassionately with horse owners and trainers. Provide discharge instructions and medication education. Support client understanding of preventative care and treatment plans. Hospital Operations Maintain treatment areas, equipment, and supplies. Assist with inventory management and stocking. Ensure compliance with hospital safety and biosecurity protocols. Participate in cleaning and maintenance of patient care areas. Qualifications Required Minimum of 2 years veterinary technician experience or equivalent animal health experience. Experience handling horses safely and confidently. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks. Valid driver's license. Must be willing to submit to background check. Preferred Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT). Previous equine veterinary hospital experience. Experience with digital imaging, laboratory procedures, and anesthesia monitoring. Knowledge of equine sports medicine, surgery, and emergency care.
