On-the-job training Job Overview - Entry Level Technician Role Looking for an individual with some history of animal handling skills willing to learn how to work with established team members at a small animal general veterinary practice. Our training program starts with customer service. Training can progress through animal restraint and doctor support. There are opportunities for some employees with a college degree, veterinary specific education or previous veterinary work experience to continue training to a higher level of technical support. A successful candidate will be able to show their ability to be trained and then preform proficiently in a self directed, busy environment at all aspects of their assigned job responsibilities. Duties and Competencies to Include After demonstrating competencies in Customer Service, Reception and Technical Assistant roles, the Technician role will include: Administer medications and vaccinations to animals Perform laboratory tests such as urinalysis, blood counts, and skin scrapings Able to position and take dental and general radiographs of patients Preparation of animals for surgery Monitor vital signs of animals during surgery and recovery Provide nursing care to sick or injured animals Demonstrate competencies for assisting veterinarians in providing medical care to patients Consistently apply proper restraint of dogs and cats Take direction from others and know when to escalate a problem/situation Willing and able to step into other roles as needed Work with clients and colleagues to support the work of the Clinic Multi-task as needed Demonstrate the ability to take initiative while still knowing when to escalate or involve others Provide and demonstrate excellent customer service, interpersonal relations, and animal interaction skills Employ self-management competencies when needed with clients, colleagues or pets Demonstrate willingness to take direction and adapt as needed to provide the best experience for clients, pets and colleagues Learning oriented and willing to try new things or adapt to SVC practices
