Position Purpose:

To support the care, housing, and maintenance of the research animal populations and to support the IACUC and the Animal Care and Use Program at the Biomedical Research Support Facility (BRSF) - the core research animal housing facility on the Oakland University campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. A minimum of 5 years' experience working in animal research. Will be required to be available to work holidays, weekends, and for after hour on-call emergency coverage. Must be able to lift and transport equipment and supplies weighing up to or having a push/pull force of 50 lbs. Follow prescribed protective measures to prevent exposure of animals or personnel to infectious agents. Must be well organized, detail orientated, possess a strong work ethic, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be familiar working with computer word processing, databases, and spreadsheets. Must have a working knowledge of the regulations and standards governing the care and use of research animals. Must be able to work with diversified professional and technical personnel and perform their duties independently and with minimum supervision. Basic knowledge and interest in laboratory animals. Basic knowledge in animal physiology and behavior. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Desired Qualifications:

Licensed Veterinary Technician Associate from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program preferred. AALAS Certified Laboratory Animal Technician preferred.
