Job Description
About the Role Maple Tree Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician for a specialized role managing our in-house pharmacy and serving as the communication link between our doctors and clients. This position is ideal for an RVT who loves the medicine side of veterinary care — you'll put your pharmacology knowledge to work daily, filling prescriptions, counseling clients on medications, and handling doctor callbacks. While the pharmacy and client communication are your primary focus, you'll also jump in to support the treatment team when the hospital needs an extra set of hands, so your full range of technical skills stays in play. What You'll Do Accurately fill, label, and dispense prescriptions under veterinarian direction Apply strong pharmacology knowledge: drug interactions, contraindications, side effects, and proper dosing across species Counsel clients on medication use, administration techniques, and what side effects to watch for Make client callbacks for veterinarians: relay lab results, treatment updates, and follow-up care instructions Triage medication questions — resolve what's within your scope and escalate clinical decisions to doctors Manage pharmacy inventory, ordering, expiration tracking, and controlled substance logs Document all communications and dispensing accurately in the practice management software Assist the treatment and exam room teams as needed during busy periods or emergencies Requirements Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in North Carolina, or eligible for NC registration (graduate of an AVMA-accredited program with passing VTNE score) Strong working knowledge of veterinary medications, their uses, effects, and interactions Excellent phone manner and client communication skills Meticulous attention to detail and accurate record-keeping Ability to pass a background check (controlled substance handling) Preferred 2+ years of clinical experience as a credentialed technician Experience with EzyVet Prior pharmacy or dispensing-focused experience
