We are seeking a compassionate and organized Medical Oncology Technician to join our Oncology service. This unique role combines patient care, scheduling coordination, and clinical support to ensure chemotherapy and oncology appointments run smoothly. Technicians in this position have the opportunity to develop advanced skills in oncology patient management, work closely alongside veterinary oncologists, and contribute to delivering exceptional, empathetic care to patients and their families

Job Description:
The Medical Oncology Technician plays an integral role in supporting our Oncology service by assisting doctors with all aspects of patient appointments, including initial consultations, rechecks, and bloodwork for patients undergoing chemotherapy. This position requires a compassionate, detail-oriented technician who is comfortable working with both clients and patients during sensitive and emotional visits.
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive nursing care for both outpatient and inpatient patients, including monitoring vital signs, blood pressure, IV fluid management, medication administration, in-patient treatments, and responding to emergencies. Assist doctors with procedures such as fine needle aspirates, bone marrow aspirates, and other diagnostic or therapeutic tasks. Maintain thorough knowledge of non-chemotherapy medications, sedatives, and anesthetic drugs, including reconstitution, dilution, administration routes, concentrations, dosages, side effects, and proper handling. Manage patient cases from start to finish in collaboration with doctors and other staff members. Understand and update chemotherapy protocols accurately. Perform and interpret laboratory tests, including CBCs and chemistry panels, and communicate results effectively to clients. Submit samples appropriately to both on-site and external laboratories. Demonstrate strong venipuncture skills, including use of IV catheters and winged butterfly sets. Safely restrain patients during exams, chemotherapy administration, and other procedures. Apply strong medical math skills as required for dosing and treatment calculations. Multitask efficiently, work independently, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. AVA certification or veterinary assistant program completion preferred. Veterinary hospital experience required; oncology or specialty experience a plus.
LVT/CVT/RVT
