We are seeking an Ophthalmology Technician to support our Ophthalmologists and hospital team by facilitating efficient, high-quality patient care for animals receiving ophthalmic exams, procedures, and surgery.

Job Description:
This position supports the ophthalmology service by delivering patient care and technical assistance during exams, treatments, and surgery. Duties include safe animal handling, monitoring patient status, administering medications and IV fluids, performing phlebotomy and catheter placement, assisting with anesthesia and emergency care, and maintaining accurate medical records. The role also involves preparing and troubleshooting specialized ophthalmic and anesthesia equipment, managing inventory and lab samples, communicating with clinicians and clients, and helping keep the hospital and surgical areas clean, stocked, and ready for patient care.
Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Phlebotomy Provide basic animal care, handling, and restraint across species Follow treatment orders and monitor patient status (TPR, MM, CRT, mentation) Understand common diseases, procedures, and medications Perform blood collection (cephalic, saphenous, jugular) and peripheral IV catheter placement Maintain awareness of safety risks including chemicals, cleaning agents, and zoonotic disease exposure Technical & Surgical Support Assist the ophthalmologist in exams, treatments, and procedures Support anesthesia and analgesia, administer medications and fluids, and perform dose calculations/CRIs Monitor patients using ECG, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, capnography, and related equipment Respond to emergencies, including CPR and assisted ventilation Prepare lab samples and maintain accurate medical and anesthesia records Prepare, sterilize, and troubleshoot ophthalmic and anesthesia equipment and instruments Equipment, Records & Inventory Maintain and inspect anesthesia machines and specialized ophthalmic equipment Document treatments, controlled substances, and monitored parameters Manage inventory, supplies, records, referrals, and related communications Communication & Hospital Support Communicate effectively with clinicians, coworkers, and clients Collaborate with departments, follow direction, and assist with team training Help maintain clean, stocked treatment and surgical areas and complete assigned duties Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Veterinary hospital experience required; Ophthalmology or specialty experience a plus. At least 2 years anesthesia/ surgery experience
LVT/CVT/RVT
credential preferred. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills required. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment. Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) required.
