Triage Technician Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Triage Technician to join our dynamic healthcare team. The triage technician is primarily responsible for initial triage and placement of patient into the appropriate service. This role is integral to maintaining the highest standards of patient care, supporting our veterinarians, and ensuring effective communication with both clients and colleagues. As a Triage Technician, you will work across various departments, utilizing your knowledge, technical skills, and strong organizational abilities to contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional veterinary care.
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the emergency department of a specialty hospital. Advanced knowledge of and ability to obtain vitals for Small Animals, Avian, and Exotics Ability to use technology for Patient Record Keeping (Treatment Sheet and Computer Record) Proficient in Low-Stress Techniques for patient restraint Advanced knowledge of common emergency situations and presentation Knowledge of Commonly Used Medications Proficient in Basic Medical Math (lbs to kgs, dose to ml administered, etc) Able to calculate intravenous fluid rates Proficient in administration of SQ, IM, and IV medications Ability to read doctors' orders and perform treatments accordingly Able to Perform Phlebotomy (Peripheral and Jugular) Able to Place Peripheral IV Catheters Ability to operate patient infusion pumps Able to Assist in CPCR Following the RECOVER Guidelines Ability to safely induce and monitor

Responsibilities:
Triage all incoming patients and assign level (STAT, Urgent, Stable) Record full vitals/history/presentation into patient record and triage board Assign patients to appropriate service (ER/Surgery/Neurology/etc) Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing answers to basic medical questions and coordinating responses from veterinarians when necessary. Handle triage phone calls from owners, determining the urgency of their pets' needs and advising accordingly. Collaborate with the healthcare team, ensuring seamless coordination and communication. Prioritize tasks to efficiently manage incoming patients and ensure they are directed to the appropriate service Always practice in a manner that upholds NorthStar VETS Core Values Complete other projects/duties as assigned by management Attend hospital/department meetings as required Job environment: Fast paced, multi-task, must be able to lift up to 45 lbs solo and 150 lbs with some assistance, standing for prolonged periods of time, tolerate sickness/death, exposure to potentially zoonotic diseases and occupational radiation If you are a proactive, detail-oriented, and compassionate individual with a passion for delivering exceptional veterinary care and communication, we encourage you to apply for the Veterinary Triage Technician position.
