Who We're Looking For We're seeking an enthusiastic Licensed Veterinary Technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment and genuinely loves veterinary medicine. Position Summary An Urgent Care Veterinary Technician at Daya Urgent Veterinary Services plays a central role in delivering high-quality, compassionate medical care to patients requiring same-day or time-sensitive veterinary attention. This position supports the medical team in all aspects of urgent medicine-focused outpatient care, including triage, diagnostics, treatments, client education, and case coordination. The ideal candidate is skilled, efficient, calm under pressure, and committed to providing exceptional service to both patients and clients in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Clinical Support Perform patient triage upon arrival, assessing urgency and communicating findings clearly to the veterinarian. Safely restrain and handle animals of varying sizes and temperaments. Obtain thorough patient histories, vital signs, and weight measurements. Assist with urgent care procedures including wound management, splinting, bandage changes, urinary catheterization, and fluid therapy. Collect and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces, cytology). Perform in-house diagnostics including digital radiography, ultrasound-guided cystocentesis, ECGs, and laboratory analyzer testing. Accurately calculate drug dosages, fluid rates, anesthesia-related calculations, and diagnostic calculations. Administer medications as prescribed (oral, injectable, subcutaneous, and intravenous). Initiate and monitor hospitalized or treatment-area patients, including IV catheter placement, fluid administration, oxygen therapy, and pain management. Maintain accurate, timely, and detailed medical records according to hospital protocols. Surgery & Anesthesia Assist with induction, monitoring, and recovery of patients undergoing urgent surgical or anesthetic procedures. Monitor anesthesia using appropriate equipment and patient parameters. Prepare instruments, equipment, and surgical areas in accordance with aseptic and safety standards. Client Service & Communication Communicate with clients professionally, empathetically, and clearly, especially during stressful situations. Explain recommended diagnostics, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions in an understandable manner. Provide education on home care, follow-up needs, and medical conditions. Support financial discussions by providing accurate treatment estimates and obtaining necessary consents. Safety, Compliance & Hospital Operations Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked treatment and exam areas. Follow all hospital protocols for patient safety, infection control, controlled substance handling, and equipment use. Ensure accurate documentation and communication during patient care and client interactions. Participate in training, continuing education, and skills development. Support teamwork by assisting colleagues, communicating effectively, and contributing to a positive workplace culture. Required Qualifications Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) Minimum 1-2 years of experience in general practice, emergency, or urgent care veterinary medicine preferred; new graduates are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, laboratory diagnostics, and patient nursing care. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining calm, accuracy, and compassion. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Physical & Schedule Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods. Comfortable working with aggressive, fearful, or critically ill animals. Availability for weekends, evenings, and holiday shifts as required by urgent care operations. Hospital operating days are Friday through Monday.
