Job Description
Animal Care Technician The Animal Care Technician supports high-quality animal care and facility operations by performing daily health observations, maintaining clean and safe housing, and ensuring accurate documentation of all activities. This role applies technical knowledge of animal husbandry and environmental monitoring to promote animal welfare and support research operations within a vivarium setting. Responsibilities + Perform daily observations of animals to assess health status, behavior, and overall condition, and promptly report any changes in animals or their environment. + Conduct environmental monitoring and complete all associated documentation accurately and on time. + Change and clean cages, racks, equipment, water bottles, and food containers according to established procedures and schedules. + Unpack and house animals upon arrival, ensuring proper identification, placement, and acclimation to their new environment. + Carry out janitorial maintenance of facility rooms, including routine cleaning and organization to maintain a sanitary and orderly work area. + Stock and restock supplies such as bedding, food, water bottles, and cleaning materials to ensure continuous availability. + Perform preventative maintenance on animal facility equipment and supplies, following standard operating procedures. + Conduct monthly sanitization of equipment and the facility to maintain high standards of cleanliness and biosecurity. + Maintain accurate records of animals, supplies, and equipment, including inventory tracking and documentation of husbandry activities. + Follow basic standard operating procedures (SOPs) and laboratory safety guidelines while performing all tasks. + Collaborate with a team of animal care staff to support smooth daily operations and ensure consistent care across all vivarium areas. + Remain flexible to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required for essential animal care coverage. Essential Skills + High School Diploma or equivalent technical certificate. + Minimum of one year of experience in animal care is helpful for this position. + Demonstrated experience in animal husbandry, including routine care, feeding, and monitoring of animals. + Ability to perform cleaning and sterilization tasks for cages, equipment, and facility areas. + Familiarity with cage wash operations and husbandry procedures. + Ability to follow basic standard operating procedures (SOPs) and laboratory safety practices. + Flexibility to work overtime, as well as weekends and holidays, as part of essential personnel coverage. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Tarrytown, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
