Job Description

Piper Companies is currently seeking an Animal Caretaker Technician (ACT) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (PA) to work for a nationally recognized academic medical research institution. The Animal Caretaker Technician will serve as a key contributor in responsibly maintaining animal care within on-site laboratories. The Animal Caretaker Technician will feed, clean, and care for animals, ensuring their health and standard of environment. Responsibilities for the Animal Caretaker Technician include:
  • Maintain timely and effective nourishment and sanitation of lab animals
  • Work comfortably in the clinical research environment of using animals for educational research
  • Document and track the animals' behaviors and activity to report to researchers
  • Monitor compliance regarding the institutional care of the animals by use of federal laws and policies
  • Be available for rotational weekend shifts Required Qualifications for the Animal Caretaker Technician include:
  • 0-1+ years of experience required directly handling animals inside a laboratory
  • Understand difference between animal rights and animal welfare in order to manage excellent husbandry
  • ALAT level of certification through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (preferred) Compensation included for the Animal Caretaker Technician includes:
  • $21 per hour
