Job Description

AEC is looking or the LVT who wants the room to become steadier because they are in it. Animal Emergency Care is looking to expand our team of licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs). This role is for the LVT who wants to utilize the full scope of their license within emergency medicine. The right person can monitor anesthesia, place lines and tubes, notice patient trends, support the veterinarians, explain the discharge, and help the next team member understand why it matters. They do not only complete technical tasks. They change the quality of the room.

Active or eligible veterinary technician license in Washington state Full-time status: > 24 hours per week Recent LVT census: Scheduled weekly hours ranging from 24 to 40 hours per week Recent gross hourly compensation: $29.25 to $41.25 hourly base Why AEC is Different AEC was founded in 2002 by local veterinarians to provide after-hours emergency care for the community. Today, AEC remains privately owned by 33 local veterinarians, many of whom are still connected to our referral network. We were built by the community, for the community, and that still shapes how we operate every day. Emergency medicine is the work we do here. Our nearest after-hours specialty options are more than an hour away, so the technical team is not peripheral to care. LVTs are central to stabilization, anesthesia, imaging, monitoring, procedural support, recovery, and the moment-to-moment recognition of patient status changes. AEC recognizes that emergency medicine is not just medicine. It is communication, timing, fear, grief, financial reality, and decision-making under pressure. We have built systems around access to care, team-based communication, and shared learning so hard moments are not carried by one person alone. The Person We Are Looking For Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, an active or eligible Washington veterinary technician license, minimum age of 18 years, and availability for weekend, overnight, or holiday shifts as defined by the terms of employment. An associate or bachelor degree in veterinary technology is preferred. Relevant LVT scope includes patient triage, injections, fluid therapy, anesthesia administration and monitoring, emergency procedure support, oxygen therapy, laboratory procedures, venipuncture, radiographs, electrocardiograms, catheter and line placements, centesis, patient discharge, safe restraint, client education, documentation, and infection control. LVT scope may expand to include leading codes, mentoring across departments, supporting workflow improvement, anesthesia for patients in crisis, complex intubation, ventilator setup and troubleshooting, central lines, intraosseous catheters, advanced nerve blocks, defibrillation, arterial sampling, arterial blood gas interpretation, advanced imaging, chest tube management, advanced bandaging, and difficult urinary catheter placement. They are helping the veterinarian work efficiently while making sure the patient remains seen. They are supporting newer team members while continuing to learn themselves. The person we are looking for can notice changes, organize next steps, communicate clearly, receive feedback, and model calm clinical practice. They understand that emergency medicine asks for competence, humility, speed, patience, and the willingness to keep learning.
