  • Paid Time Off Introduction The Beresford Vet Clinic is family-oriented veterinary clinic that provides personal service to the agricultural, urban and rescue communities around Beresford, SD.
We are looking for a full-time Veterinary Technician to be an invaluable member of our clinic team! This position will assist the Veterinarians with providing outstanding care to a mix of animals - companion, ruminants, equine, exotics and all those in between. The clinic goal is to develop a lasting relationship with our clients and patients through positive interaction, community service, quality veterinary medicine and teamwork. Job Responsibilities The Veterinary Technician assists in multiple procedures providing care for animals including physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, and immunizations as well as customer education and inventory maintenance. Key Responsibilities 1. Assists the veterinarian during examination of animals, providing restraint as needed in order to work safely and effectively. 2. Prepares and administer medications and treatments, as prescribed by the veterinarian. 3. Performs routine dental cleanings on animals under the direction of the veterinarian. 4. Administers anesthesia to animals under the direction of the veterinarian and monitors animals' responses. 5. Takes radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques. 6. Cares for and monitors the condition of animals recovering from surgery. 7. Performs laboratory tests to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems. 8. Administers emergency first aid. 9. Provides the veterinarian with the correct equipment and instruments, as needed. 10. Fills prescriptions, counting medications and labeling containers. 11. Prepares animals for surgery, performing such tasks as shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters. 12. Maintains clean examination rooms and treatment areas. 13. Works collaboratively with veterinarians to ensure that all animals are being cared for properly and moving through the system efficiently. Skills and Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. College or college-equivalent education (completed) as required in becoming a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in South Dakota. 1-year previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice preferred. Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Ability to foster positive work environment for colleagues and customers.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have telephone and computer skills, i.e. email, clinic computer program, Microsoft Word and Excel. (Training available)
  • Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.
  • Knowledge of proper methods of animal restraint
