Job Description

Hill Country Humane Society is looking for a hardworking, dependable, experienced animal care professional to join our team as a Veterinary Technician / Animal Care & Adoption Support team member. This position supports our MASH high-volume spay and neuter program, shelter medical care, daily animal care, and adoption operations. This is not a traditional veterinary clinic job. We are a busy open-intake animal shelter, which means every team member helps where they are needed. HCHS is currently open to hiring for this role in several ways depending on experience, availability, and shelter need: Part-time employee: approximately 30 hours per week Full-time employee: 40 hours per week Contract / as-needed support: for MASH high-volume spay and neuter surgery days, vaccine clinics, and other medical clinic days as needed This role may include veterinary support, surgery prep and recovery, shelter medicine, animal handling, customer service, cleaning, adoption support, and general shelter work. The right person must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and willing to jump in wherever the team needs help. Some cleaning will be required every day. Applicants with strong veterinary technician experience, high-volume surgery experience, anesthesia monitoring skills, shelter medicine experience, or advanced animal handling skills may qualify for a higher starting rate.
Important Note About This Position:
While this role includes veterinary technician duties, it is also part of the shelter animal care and adoption team. That means this person may still be expected to clean kennels, help with daily animal care, assist the public, support adoptions, and help with general shelter operations. Everyone at HCHS helps where they are needed. Contract or as-needed team members may be used specifically for MASH surgery days, vaccine clinics, or other medical support needs, but must still be comfortable working in a shelter environment with animals, noise, cleaning, fast movement, and changing priorities.
Pay:
$14.00 - $19.00 per hour
