Job Description

Job Overview Join our dynamic veterinary team as a Veterinary Technician - Equine, where your expertise will play a vital role in delivering exceptional care to our equine patients. This energetic position offers the opportunity to work closely with veterinarians and horse owners, providing hands-on horse care, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring the well-being of each horse. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures in our equine only environment Perform equine restraint and handling using safe and humane techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff Prepare and maintain sterile fields using aseptic techniques for surgical and diagnostic procedures Collect samples for laboratory testing, operate laboratory equipment, and record results accurately Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian Maintain detailed medical records, including patient care history, treatment plans, and procedural documentation Requirements Previous veterinary technician experience with a focus on equine preferred Extensive experience in riding and handling horses required Strong knowledge of equine anatomy, physiology, and veterinary terminology related to horses and other animals Familiarity with safe equine handling and restraint methods Experience with animal catheterization, X-ray procedures, laboratory work, and pet care techniques will yield a higher pay rate. Relevant certifications or training in veterinary technology or animal care are advantageous - License is not required but will yield a higher pay rate Must live within 30 minutes of Hempstead, TX Other requirements Minimum of 18 years old and previously employed for a minimum of 2 years. Genuinely enjoys working with horses and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain. Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis. Is well-spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature. Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members. Has excellent client communication skills
Physical Effort :
Work requires lifting and carrying foals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting foals over 40 lbs). Walks, holds, or twitches adult horses with confidence and ease. Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position. Will use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms. Dexterity of the hands is required in order to complete patient-care-related tasks. Working conditions : May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases. $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
