Animal Shelter Technician - Part-Time

The City of Luling Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Animal Shelter Technician. The Animal Shelter Technician is responsible for the daily care and well-being of animals housed within the City's animal shelter. Duties may vary based on operational needs but are essential to maintaining a safe, clean, and humane environment for all animals.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide daily care for sheltered animals, including feeding, watering, and cleaning enclosures Monitor animal health and report concerns; assist with administering medications as directed Maintain sanitary and safe shelter conditions in compliance with applicable standards Safely and humanely handle animals of various sizes, temperaments, and activity levels Assist with animal control-related duties as needed Interact professionally with the public regarding shelter operations and animal-related inquiries

Qualifications & Skills:

Experience:

Previous experience working with animals preferred but not required; on-the-job training provided

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge:

Basic understanding of animal behavior, nutrition, and safe handling procedures

Physical Ability:

Ability to lift, move, and restrain animals of varying sizes

Schedule Flexibility:

Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and varying hours based on departmental needs

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with frequent handling of materials up to 20 pounds Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods Frequent work in bent or physically demanding positions

Working Conditions:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions Exposure to high noise levels, unpleasant odors, animal waste, and cleaning chemicals Potential exposure to sick or aggressive animals, including risk of bites or scratches Significant physical activity, including walking dogs and cleaning enclosures
