Job Description

Job Title:
Overnight Specialty Veterinary Technician - ICU & Urgent Referral Services Critical Patients. Advanced Nursing Care. Meaningful Impact. The Animal Cancer and Referral Center is proud to be launching a brand-new Oncology Urgent Referral Service designed specifically to support dogs and cats experiencing oncology-related concerns that require timely evaluation and care. This innovative service was developed to address a growing need within the veterinary community by providing oncology-focused urgent care and hospitalization for both established ACRC patients and referred oncology cases. Unlike a traditional emergency hospital, our focus is on providing specialized oncology support when patients need it most. As an Overnight ICU & Urgent Referral Technician, you'll be at the forefront of patient care when it matters most. You'll provide advanced nursing care and monitoring for post-operative surgical patients, hospitalized oncology patients, and urgent referral cases while working alongside our Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and ICU teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to help launch and grow our Oncology Urgent Referral Service while practicing advanced medicine, exercising critical thinking, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families. As the program grows, we are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with and support emergency veterinarians and technicians throughout our community by helping bridge the gap between emergency medicine and specialty oncology care. At ACRC, our overnight technicians are much more than treatment technicians—they are highly skilled medical professionals responsible for recognizing subtle changes in patient status, intervening early, and ensuring exceptional care when patients need it most. RECOVER CPR
✔ Advanced pain management protocols ✔ Urgent referral patient stabilization and monitoring ✔ Collaboration with Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and Hospitalist services This is an ideal role for technicians who enjoy patient advocacy, critical care, and practicing advanced medicine in a supportive specialty environment. What You'll Do Monitor hospitalized oncology, urgent referral, and post-operative surgical patients overnight Perform detailed patient assessments, obtain accurate vital signs, and recognize subtle changes in patient condition Administer medications, CRIs, blood products, and advanced nursing treatments Monitor and manage oxygen therapy, high-flow oxygen therapy, feeding tubes, chest tubes, urinary catheters, drains, and specialty equipment Perform venipuncture, advanced IV catheter placement, blood collection, laboratory sample processing, and patient diagnostics Assist with blood typing, crossmatching, transfusion administration, and transfusion monitoring Monitor advanced anesthesia and sedation cases as needed Assist with ventilator monitoring and management of critically ill patients Assist with arterial lines, central lines, long lines, and advanced monitoring techniques Place and manage nasal cannulas, nasoesophageal feeding tubes, and urinary catheters based on training and competency Participate in
RECOVER CPR
events and assist with emergency stabilization of critical patients Triage urgent referral patients and communicate findings to the attending veterinarian Maintain accurate medical records, treatment sheets, and patient communication notes Recognize changes in patient status and communicate concerns promptly to the attending veterinarian Support and mentor newer technicians while promoting a collaborative learning environment Help maintain a clean, organized, and patient-focused hospital environment Advocate for patients and deliver exceptional overnight specialty care Who We're Looking For You may be a great fit if you: Love patient care and nursing medicine Enjoy critical thinking and problem-solving Are comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with a medical team Have strong technical and patient assessment skills Are calm, confident, and detail-oriented under pressure Thrive in a fast-paced specialty environment Value teamwork, communication, and patient advocacy Have a passion for ICU, ECC, oncology, surgery, or specialty medicine Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of veterinary technician experience Specialty, emergency, ICU, surgery, oncology, or advanced GP experience
LVT/CVT/VTS
preferred Experience with anesthesia monitoring and post-operative care strongly preferred
