Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic team as a Large Animal Veterinary Technician and play a vital role in providing exceptional care to a diverse range of large animals, including equines, livestock, and exotic species. This energetic position offers the opportunity to work closely with veterinarians in a fast-paced environment dedicated to animal health and well-being. You will be instrumental in assisting with clinical procedures, animal handling, laboratory diagnostics, and critical care, ensuring our patients receive top-tier treatment and comfort. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures involving large animals such as horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and exotic species. Perform animal restraint and handling using safe and humane techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff. Conduct laboratory tests including sample collection, processing, and analysis to support diagnostic efforts. Prepare animals for procedures by administering treatments, setting up equipment, and maintaining aseptic techniques. Manage animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, grooming, cleaning stalls, and monitoring health status. Utilize veterinary terminology accurately while documenting patient records, treatment plans, and laboratory results. Support pet care activities like dental cleaning using dental terminology understanding and assist with pet grooming when needed. Handle specialized tasks such as animal catheterization, X-ray imaging, and assisting with veterinary critical care procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work environment adhering to safety protocols and animal physiology standards. Collaborate with team members on patient care plans involving animal anatomy knowledge and veterinary technician expertise. Qualifications Proven kennel experience or background in animal husbandry that demonstrates familiarity with large animals. Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, and anatomy relevant to large animals. Experience with animal restraint techniques, including dog handling skills applicable to larger species when necessary. Knowledge of laboratory procedures related to veterinary diagnostics and X-ray operation skills preferred. Previous veterinary technician experience in a clinical or farm setting is highly desirable. Ability to perform animal catheterization accurately while maintaining aseptic technique. Excellent animal handling skills combined with pet care knowledge for ensuring safety and comfort during procedures.
