Position Overview:
The Shift Lead Technician is a leadership role responsible for the day-to-day coordination and supervision of the clinical support team during a designated shift. This role requires strong veterinary technical skills, excellent communication, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment. The Shift Lead ensures smooth hospital flow, oversees team dynamics, supports client communication, and serves as a point person for floor management and case coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support the veterinary technician and assistant team during assigned shifts Manage shift flow including patient triage, case assignments, and room/resource utilization Coordinate breaks, lunches, and staff coverage across departments to maintain efficient operations Serve as a liaison between support staff, doctors, and client service representatives Oversee and assist with patient care, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures as needed Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members Facilitate clear and timely communication with clients, including updates, discharges, and education Monitor shift needs and escalate concerns to management when appropriate Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, safety standards, and cleanliness expectations Participate in daily rounds, meetings, and help maintain a positive team culture
Qualifications:
Certified, Licensed, or Registered Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) required Minimum 3 years of clinical veterinary experience, preferably in emergency or specialty medicine Proven leadership abilities with strong communication and problem-solving skills Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain calm in high-pressure situations Strong technical and organizational skills, with a working knowledge of veterinary workflows Positive attitude and commitment to team success and patient-centered care Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Why Join AVC?
