Day Shift Description:
The ICU Nurse Leader is a licensed Registered Nurse accountable for leading people, processes, and outcomes within the Intensive Care Unit. This role supports high‑acuity, complex patient care through operational excellence, clinical leadership, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and patient‑centered care. The Nurse Leader advocates for patients, families, nurses, and colleagues while advancing critical care nursing practice. Key Responsibilities Provide 24/7 operational leadership for the ICU, including staffing, throughput, and resource utilization Lead, coach, and develop ICU nursing staff through hiring, onboarding, performance management, and engagement Ensure high‑reliability care through compliance with regulatory, safety, and evidence‑based ICU standards Partner with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes for critically ill patients Drive quality, safety, patient experience, and financial performance using data and established metrics Lead unit‑based improvement initiatives and support change management in a high‑acuity environment Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, well‑being, and continuous learning ICU Leadership Focus Oversight of critically ill patient populations requiring advanced monitoring and interventions Rapid decision‑making guided by clinical urgency, staffing acuity, and operational priorities Visible, hands‑on leadership presence supporting staff in high‑stress, fast‑paced situations Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing (required); Master's degree (preferred) Active Iowa RN license Minimum 2 years of ICU or critical care nursing experience (required) Previous charge nurse, supervisory, or nursing leadership experience (preferred) BLS required; ACLS preferred Specialty certification (CCRNs or related) preferred Demonstrated ability to lead in a collaborative, shared‑governance environment Why MercyOne Trinity Health Guided by our Mission and Core Values— Reverence, Safety, Integrity, Stewardship, Justice, and Commitment to Those Who Are Poor —we serve as a compassionate and transforming healing presence for our communities.
