•This Announcement will close on May 20, 2026 -OR- once it reaches 50 applicants•These Personnel Security Assistant positions will support: Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, IL Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center in
Milwaukee, WI Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/20/2026.Time-In-Grade Requirement :
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.Note:
Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:GS-5 GRADE REQUIREMENT
Specialized Experience:
Must have one full year equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: Basic knowledge of the regulations, policies, procedures, principles and concepts that govern the Personal Identity Verification Program. Oral communication skills in order to provide technical advice and guidance to customers. Ability to enter, extract, and evaluate employee information via access to various computer databases. Ability to deal with highly charged emotional situation and have the ability to work calmly and effectively in sensitive, stress- producing situations. Basic knowledge of the organizational structure, mission, goals and needs; initiating, reviewing, and approving background cases for release to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in compliance with policies. Ability to assemble position descriptions and functional statements while tracking electronically the level assigned and appropriate background investigation needed. Ability to enter appropriate data in required databases related to an appointee's suitability from a wide variety of sources.OR Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 4 years above high school. (Transcripts Required)OR Combination:
