Compensation:
Competitive hourly rate (based on experience) About the Role We are seeking a compassionate, engaging, and experienced tutor to support a rising 4th-grade student recently identified with dyslexia. This student demonstrates strong reasoning abilities but experiences challenges with reading, particularly processing written instructions efficiently and keeping pace in academic settings. The ideal candidate will prioritize building trust and confidence while delivering structured literacy support in a way that feels interactive, encouraging, and personalized. This student thrives with connection, positive reinforcement, and momentum built through small, meaningful successes. Key Responsibilities Provide individualized, in-home tutoring sessions focused on literacy development and dyslexia support Implement structured, evidence-based reading strategies (e.g., Orton-Gillingham or similar approaches) Use creative, hands-on, and gamified learning techniques to keep sessions engaging and motivating Support reading fluency, decoding, comprehension, and written language skills Foster confidence, resilience, and a positive academic mindset Adjust session plans based on the student's energy, schedule, and progress Communicate regularly with the family regarding progress and strategies Ideal Candidate Experience working with students with dyslexia or language-based learning differences Training in structured literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Barton, etc.) preferred Warm, relational, and patient—able to build strong rapport and trust Creative and flexible, with the ability to make learning interactive and fun Skilled at balancing structure with engagement (bringing energy while maintaining clear instructional goals) Comfortable supporting a student who may feel sensitive or discouraged when facing challenges
Schedule Details Summer:
2-3 sessions per week with flexible daytime availability (schedule may vary due to camps, sports, and travel)
School Year:
Transition to a consistent 1 session per week Additional Notes This is an excellent opportunity for a tutor who values relationship-based teaching and enjoys bringing creativity and energy into literacy instruction. The family is especially interested in someone who can incorporate games and interactive learning to help build both skills and confidence over time.
Pay:
$40.00 - $80.00 per hour
