Job Description

The primary responsibility for role of Field Services Coordinator, is to provide specialized technical management and coordination of 800 MHz radio and Computer Aided Dispatch Communication Systems and related equipment, throughout all public safety agencies in Hendricks County. Additional duties include oversight of related satellite radio towers and facilities, on-site and satellite generator systems, handheld radio functionality, and other related equipment and support systems of Hendricks County 911. Duties include, but are not limited to: Assists with the management of the Public Safety 800 MHz P25 trunked radio systems in Hendricks County including software (CAD / Radio), hardware, towers, tower facilities, generators, battery backup systems, dispatch consoles, mobile, and handheld radios. Fosters technical collaboration between Hendricks County 911 and Marion County Department of Public Safety (DPSC), Hoosier Safe-T (IPSC) and Town of Plainfield IT. Maintains all radio licensing registration requirements and assists with licensing of towers utilized by the Hendricks County 911 and registered by IPSC. Manages maintenance of radios and radio programming, towers, and related equipment, including monitoring operations, scheduling maintenance, and contacting vendors as necessary and ensuring maintenance of required records. Performs regular tower site inspections including buildings, towers, perimeter, and grounds. Performs regular data updates in the Computer Aided Dispatch database, the IPSC system CAM, and provides an update to DPSC for Motorola provisioning. Functions as a CAD systems administrator and Chairperson of Hendricks County 911 user groups with technical agency representatives. Works with Hendricks County public safety agencies to ensure the CAD and radio services satisfies department operational needs within the limitations of software, Motorola, and DPSC imposed restrictions. Provides technical oversight and support to include but not limited to alignment of radios, radio troubleshooting, radio system signal issues, and works with IPSC to resolve radio concerns involving the IPSC system. Required to be on on-call for support communication needs during major emergencies or other major events as needed. Completes administrative duties to include attending meetings, reviewing statistics and reports, completing various reports, approving invoices, answering inquiries, etc., as needed. Maintains an effective communication process with the Deputy Director of Support Services and/or Director of Hendricks County 911.

Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and five to seven years related technical experience and/or training in public safety communication systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelors or Master's degree in information technology or other related technical degree preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities:
The following skills and abilities are either required or desired. Proficiency in 800Mhz radio and related CAD hardware and software systems management required. Advanced technical understanding of public safety technology including networking, hardware, and software systems. Other basic computer software skills required include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations is required. A comprehensive knowledge of the geography of the County is required. The ability to display conduct on and off duty that holds a positive and professional image within the department and the community. The ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgment within established protocols and guidelines is required. The ability to enforce rules and follow all established protocols and guidelines is required. The ability to maintain and cultivate positive relationship with residents, vendors and other Town and County departments is required. The ability remain current with all required licenses, certifications and in-service requirements is required. The ability to operate computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required. The ability to speak, read and write in English is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is exposed to working near moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock when working with office equipment and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. While the offices of the Hendricks County Communications Center are open 24 hours a day, this position may require work on the weekends and holidays. It may also require the ability to drive Town vehicles. Thus, a valid driver's license may be required.
