Position Summary The Electrician position performs routine electrical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repair duties requiring a basic knowledge of industrial electrical/electronic theory. Must also be knowledgeable of medium and high voltage equipment related to water and wastewater treatment and production equipment which may include: ozone generators, chemical equipment, air compressors, valve actuators, motors, variable frequency drives, and various other equipment. Individual is expected to identify electrical hazards, troubleshoot and remedy problems using independent judgment. The Electrician may provide work site coaching and mentorship to apprentices and assistants. Job Responsibilities To maintain the various water and wastewater treatment, purification and production related equipment and facilitate electrical repairs necessary to keep equipment operating in an efficient manner. Coordinate with water and wastewater operations personnel to assure critical equipment is operational. May be asked to assist other departments with various task during emergency repairs or routine maintenance. Performs all routine preventative maintenance and repair tasks as specified in the equipment operations and maintenance manuals as directed by supervisory staff. Locate and determine root cause of electrical malfunctions. Observes safe work practices through proper use of safety equipment and procedures, including permit required confined space entry and lock out tag out. Maintains records of work performed on assets and provides follow-up reports within the work order management system. Shift Work and Call Rotation a. Personnel assigned to a shift work location will be required to participate in a regular twelve-hour shift schedule and must be able to work overtime when needed. b. Personnel NOT assigned to a shift work location will be required to be on a rotational "ONCALL" status to respond to NTMWD repairs outside of normal business hours must be able to work overtime when needed. Attend all required trainings as directed. Prioritize safe work practices and demonstrate safe work practices on job sites. Remain current on all required continuing education for Journeyman License to keep licensure in good active standing.
Job Requirements Education & Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience as an Electrician in an industrial setting. Must possess a valid Electrical Journeyman's license or obtain an Electrical Journeyman's license with the State of Texas within 24 months. Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Must be knowledgeable of electrical theory and practices. Must be knowledgeable of safety pertaining to electrical distribution systems and equipment. Must be knowledgeable in the use of electrical diagnostic tools and equipment and interpretation of results. Must be able to safely and efficiently perform repairs to electrical distribution systems and equipment based on interpretation of testing, trouble shooting in order to return equipment to working status. Must become proficient in the use of the District Computerized Maintenance Management System Must have the ability to comprehend, carry out and administer written and oral instruction. Must have the ability to read and understand technical manuals, drawings and one-line diagrams, operations and maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints and safety data sheets. Environmental and Physical Working Conditions Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state. Heavy physical exertion with lifting requirements from 10 to 70 pounds daily. Work also requires pushing, pulling, climbing ladders and working at heights and in confined spaces including trenches and above and below ground. May also work in apparatus at height, scissor lift etc. Working conditions include exposure to high voltage areas, weather, odor, noise, chemical hazards, gases and dust. Equipment utilized includes small hand and power tools, electrical and testing equipment.
