Job Description
Position Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Injection & Compression Mold Designer to join our growing team in Whitehall, Michigan. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing high-quality injection and compression molds for manufacturing applications while collaborating closely with engineering, tooling, and production teams to ensure efficient and accurate mold performance. Key Responsibilities Design injection molds and compression molds based on customer specifications, product drawings, and manufacturing requirements. Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models using mold design software. Develop complete mold assemblies, layouts, and component drawings. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize mold functionality, manufacturability, and cycle efficiency. Review part designs for moldability and recommend design improvements when necessary. Ensure molds meet quality standards, tolerances, and production requirements. Support mold troubleshooting, modifications, repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives. Work closely with machinists, toolmakers, and project managers throughout the build process. Maintain accurate documentation, bill of materials (BOM), and revision records. Follow company safety standards and engineering best practices. Qualifications Associate's degree or technical certification in Tool Design, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. 3+ years of experience in injection mold and/or compression mold design. Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or similar design platforms. Strong understanding of mold construction, tooling materials, cooling systems, and manufacturing processes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings. Knowledge of plastic injection molding and compression molding processes. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Skills Experience with automotive, industrial, aerospace, or consumer product tooling. Familiarity with CNC machining and mold manufacturing processes. Understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturability) principles.
