Job Description

We are seeking a knowledgeable and driven Inside Sales / Counter Sales Representative to support both contractor and retail customers in a fast-paced lumberyard environment. This role is responsible for estimating, product selection, order management, and building strong customer relationships across framing, decking, siding, and general building materials. The ideal candidate understands construction workflows, can interpret plans, and is comfortable managing multiple jobs, quotes, and customer interactions throughout the sales cycle. Responsibilities Develop new and existing sales opportunities through walk-in, phone, and account-based interactions Perform material takeoffs and generate accurate job estimates from plans and customer specifications Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, builders, and repeat customers Recommend cost-effective material solutions based on project needs Convert quotes into orders while maximizing ticket size and margin Manage orders from quote to completion, including revisions, returns, and job changes Coordinate with yard and delivery teams to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment Process transactions and payments through the store's point-of-sale system Maintain product knowledge across lumber, siding, decking, and related materials Skills & Qualifications Experience in lumberyard, building materials, or construction-related sales preferred Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings Experience with estimating and material takeoffs strongly preferred Strong understanding of framing, siding, decking, and general building materials Excellent communication and customer service skills Ability to manage multiple quotes, orders, and priorities in a fast-paced environment Familiarity with POS and estimating systems is a plus Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Work Environment On-site position in a fast-paced lumberyard setting Frequent interaction with contractors, builders, and retail customers Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly wage or salary (based on experience) plus commission Performance-based incentives tied to sales volume, margin, and account growth 401(k) Health, dental, and vision insurance Life insurance Paid time off Employee discount
