Job Description

Automotive Tech Job Description The Installation Technician plays a key role in assembling and installing custom truck bodies by laying out, wiring, and mounting hydraulic systems, electronic components, and power take-offs (PTOs). You will set up and operate a variety of machines to cut, bend, saw, and punch steel into custom parts required for body mounting, while using industrial tools and equipment safely and efficiently. Responsibilities Lay out, wire, and mount hydraulic systems, electronic components, and PTOs on custom truck bodies and truck chassis. Set up and operate machines that cut, bend, saw, and punch steel into custom parts needed for mounting truck bodies. Use overhead chain hoists, forklifts, handcarts, and other material handling equipment to move parts and assemblies safely. Perform mechanical assembly and installation of components, including frames, pumps, and related hardware. Complete electrical wiring and basic electrical installations on truck bodies and associated systems. Interpret and follow work orders, blueprints, and production drawings to ensure accurate assembly and installation. Measure materials and components using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices to maintain accuracy and quality. Use power tools and hand tools to fabricate, fit, and install parts according to specifications. Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues during assembly and installation, and make necessary adjustments or repairs. Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle general labor tasks associated with production and installation. Follow all safety procedures while working with heavy equipment, machinery, and industrial materials. Essential Skills At least six months of experience with heavy installation, preferably on vehicles. Basic understanding of hydraulics, PTOs, frames, pumps, electrical controls, and wiring. Mechanical assembly skills, including installation and fabrication on heavy equipment or vehicles. Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and production drawings. Ability to use measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers accurately. Basic math skills to set up and operate machines, perform measurements, and solve practical problems. Proficiency with power tools and hand tools used for assembly, installation, and fabrication. Ability to use overhead chain hoists, forklifts, handcarts, and similar equipment safely. Capability to lift, pick, push, and move objects up to 50 pounds. Physical ability to bend, twist, carry, work overhead, kneel, crouch, climb, and stand throughout the shift. Ability to stand on a concrete floor for the duration of the shift while wearing appropriate safety footwear, including steel-toed shoes. Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues. Additional Skills & Qualifications Preferred experience operating a hand plasma cutter. Preferred experience with wire feed welding. Experience working in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment. Comfort working around large overhead cranes and industrial machinery. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Strong safety awareness in an industrial setting. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based on a large, open factory or plant floor with a heavy industrial atmosphere. The facility includes multiple welding stations, which may result in dimmer lighting in some areas, and large overhead cranes operating throughout the building. Ventilation is designed to maintain good airflow, but you will be regularly exposed to grease, oil, heat, humidity, occasionally cramped quarters, and possibly wet conditions. The position requires frequent climbing of ladders, use of creepers under chassis, and working in and around large industrial equipment. You will stand on a concrete floor for most of the shift and are required to wear steel-toed shoes and other appropriate safety gear while working. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
