Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of instructional support services to a diverse population of students in an atmosphere of kindness that encourages active inquiry, emergent curriculum, fosters individual growth and promote respect for self, others and the world in which they live to ensure that all students learn the basic and essential skills at each level.REPORTS TO
Director of Albany Children's CenterREPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
: E=essential duties The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Work with the teacher in planning and implementing a program of instruction that adheres to the school's philosophy, goals and objectives E Work with the teacher in making purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task E Work with the teacher in planning and implementing a program of study designed to meet individual needs of students E Work with the teacher in encouraging student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits E Work with the teacher in providing progress through authentic observations E Use effective oral and written expression E Recognize learning problems and make referrals to the teacher E Other related duties as assigned Attend to children's personal needs when needed E Use appropriate classroom behavior management approaches such as setting limits, redirection, and choices E Keep children safe and take necessary precautions to protect children, equipment, materials and facilities E Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other co-workers E Communicate with parents regularly E Maintain regular and punctual attendance and attire appropriate for the position E Interact with a diverse community E Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and state and federal lawsE QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS KNOWLEDGE OF
Developmentally appropriate instructional and student management strategies; developmentally Appropriate Practice - DAP; general computer operationsABILITY TO
Operate common machines to prepare instructional materials; meet and interact with parents, public, and students in a tactful and courteous manner; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; interact with a diverse community; learn currently used computer applications and programsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Performs work which is primarily in a classroom or playground setting, may occasionally accompany students and teachers on field trips off school site; requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects (keyboard, telephone, and common office machines); requires vision (which may be corrected) to read small print; requires the mobility to stand, walk, stoop, reach, and bend; requires lifting, pushing and/or pulling books, supplies, equipment (mobility equipment), and packages which do not exceed 30 pounds and is an infrequent aspect of the jobEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Previous experience working with school age and/or pre-school children preferred 6 semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development Completion of high school or equivalentLICENSES/CERTIFICATES
