The Instructional Coach is a critical lever for improving student achievement by building teacher capacity and strengthening instructional practice. Instructional Coaches support educators through collaboration, reflection, and job-embedded professional learning focused on high-quality teaching and learning. Instructional Coaches model continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and a deep commitment to student success. They work collaboratively as a team with members of the Division of Teaching & Learning and the Office of Professional Learning to promote effective instructional practices across the district. This role emphasizes reflection, strengths-based coaching, collaboration, and addressing shared instructional challenges. Instructional Coaches ensure high-quality instruction through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, and providing non-evaluative feedback to teachers. This is not a supervisory position and does not include evaluation of colleagues.REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university Valid Virginia Department of Education teaching license with any endorsement Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience, including demonstrated impact on student achievement and experience working with students with the greatest needs Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and foster a professional community of adult learners Demonstrated leadership skills and strong interpersonal abilities, including giving and receiving constructive feedback Proficiency in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions Evidence of teacher leadership Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise Excellent oral and written communication skills Commitment to continuous improvement and lifelong learning Evidence of professional growth through leadership roles and participation in high-quality professional developmentESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
(including but not limited to the following) Model instructional lessons in classrooms on a daily or weekly basis Support teachers' understanding of curriculum, assessments, instructional frameworks, and data analysis Build and maintain strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and fellow coaches Provide guidance and coordination to ensure curriculum implementation aligns with district initiatives and best instructional practices Collaborate with building administration to create and maintain an articulated coaching schedule Support teachers in understanding and implementing the MPCS mission and core values Facilitate and support collaborative teams within school buildings Assist teachers with instructional resources, materials, tools, and planning supports, including the implementation of new resources Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction at all levels Assist with lesson planning, pacing, differentiation, and selection of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs Support teachers in the "strategic how" of teaching by sharing multiple instructional strategies during planning sessions Conduct informal, non-evaluative classroom observations and provide feedback to support professional growth and student success Design and deliver professional development using a variety of formats and targeted topics Develop individualized coaching plans focused on improving instructional practice and student outcomes Apply principles of Adult Learning Theory to motivate and support adult learners Contribute to the development of systems and structures that improve instructional practice within schools Provide job-embedded professional learning beyond assigned coaching responsibilities Maintain responsibility for ongoing professional growth and skill development Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and vision of Manassas Park City SchoolsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in a professional school environment that includes classrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, auditoriums, and outdoor learning or recreational areas. The work environment involves noise levels that may range from low to moderate and requires frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the school day. Occasional climbing, kneeling, or crouching may also be required. Periods of sitting are common while preparing lessons, grading assignments, or completing administrative tasks. The position may require lifting or moving instructional materials, classroom supplies, or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 25 pounds or more. Regular use of computers, interactive whiteboards, projectors, printers, and other instructional technologies is required to support teaching and learning. Clear verbal communication, active listening, and visual attentiveness are essential for delivering instruction and ensuring student safety. The role involves daily interaction with students and regular collaboration with colleagues, administrators, and families. Occasional travel between school sites or participation in supervised field trips may also be required. Teachers must be able to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to the demands of a dynamic, fast-paced educational environment.CLEARANCES
