School Year Primary Function :
The online lab mentor's primary function is to ensure that students have a safe, productive, and supportive environment while they are engaged in online learning. This involves maintaining order, providing assistance, monitoring student activity, and enforcing school policies. The lab monitor helps facilitate the online learning process by supporting students, addressing technical issues, and promoting a focused atmosphere. Qualifications â€"
Education & Experience :
Associate degree or equivalent preferred, minimum high school diploma. Ability to effectively relate with students, staff, and parents. Ability to assist with the instruction of students. Relevant subject area proficiency/expertise/knowledge preferred (i.e., reading, writing, mathematics, language arts, etc.). Ability to lift and maneuver 50 pounds, unaided. Meet requirements set forth in applicable state and federal laws. Ability to manage students in individual, small group, and whole group situations. Must exhibit a pleasant personality and positive attitude toward working with students, administration, staff, and community members. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Supervise and work with students in online learning lab setting. Ensure students remain engaged in their online courses and follow classroom rules. Maintain a quiet, focused environment conducive to learning. Address any disruptions or distractions and provide corrective guidance as needed. Assist students with basic technical issues related to their online courses (e.g., login problems, video or audio issues). Ensure all students have access to necessary technology and equipment (computers, headphones, etc.). Report any persistent technical issues to the appropriate school staff or IT department. Help students navigate online platforms, access course materials, and complete assignments as needed. Ensure students understand how to submit assignments, take quizzes, and communicate with instructors. Monitor student activity to ensure academic honesty during tests, quizzes, or assignments. Prevent misuse of online resources by observing students' interactions with their devices. Provide academic encouragement and ensure students are on track to meet deadlines. Enforce safety and school rules within the classroom, including appropriate use of online resources. Monitor student attendance and participation in the lab, ensuring all students are present and engaged in their work. Serve as the main point of contact between students, teachers, and administrators for any in-class concerns or issues. Provide feedback to teachers regarding student performance or behavior, as necessary. Foster a respectful and supportive atmosphere by encouraging collaboration and respectful behavior among students. Openly support and abide by all District Board Policies. Maintain regular and predictable in-person attendance. Support the vision and mission of Oxford Community Schools. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Populations or Building Principal.
