JOB OBJECTIVE
Objective:
The Instructional Specialist, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The Instructional Specialist will focus on individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding about evidence-based effective instruction for teachers. Overall, the job of the Instructional Specialist is to build the capacity of the school and its teachers to meet the learning needs of all students and to enhance instructional practices at the classroom level and to raise the level of student achievement.
Essential Job Functions:
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter. Teach, model, and facilitate research-based best practices within the school's instructional program. Assist teachers with the collection and analysis of data results. Evaluate student achievement and assist with placing students in the appropriate intervention and support service. Identify needs and make recommendations for appropriate instructional materials and assessments that directly support and align to the Common Core State Standards. Collaborate with teachers to identify the instructional needs of students, to set learning goals and targets, and to problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth for students. Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed. Provide specific integration and differentiation strategies that enable teachers to meet the needs of all learners. Model lessons when necessary. Assist with development of district curriculum, instruction and assessments. Attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies. Keeps current with advances in technology associated with work assignments. Meets regularly with TBT teams and the principal to report on instructional practices and progress while also planning "next steps" for student and school improvement. Work positively toward meeting identified district Strategic Plan and Building Improvement goals. Facilitate textbook adoptions for specified content area. Facilitate and participate in the curriculum advisory group. Advances the District's professional image. Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual. Respects privacy and maintains the confidentiality of privileged information. Maintain open/effective communications; use problem-solving techniques to tactfully address questions/concerns; serve as an information resource. Promote the district's mission, philosophy and vision; build internal/external partnerships that support district goals and enhance student learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university. Current Ohio Teaching License Minimum of five years successful teaching experience. Deep knowledge of reading, writing, literacy development, and/or math essential functions and problem solving, science inquiry and social studies. Ability to lift/move items weighing 15 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous related experience in research-based/evidence-based instructional practices. Experience working in a multicultural setting. Ability to anticipate time constraints; manage tasks efficiently to meet deadlines. Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers. Ability to interpret the information accurately and initiate effective responses. Skillfully manage individual, group, and organizational interactions.
