Station Avenue Elementary School is looking for a special educator to be the lead teacher in a program that provides services for students with moderate to severe primary disability of Intellectual Impairment, Multiple Disabilities, or Autism, demonstrating cognitive/adaptive functioning significantly below average. The lead teacher will support students in the following capacities:Adaptive Skills Deficit:
Significant deficits in self-care, communication, social skills, or safety that require intensive supervision.Lack of Progress:
Documented lack of progress in general education with sub-sep supports (e.g., resource room) for at least one school year.Instructional Need:
Requires a highly specialized, repetitive, or individualized curriculum (e.g., life skills, intensive behavioral support).Intensive Staffing:
Requires a high ratio of staff-to-student interaction to manage safety and learning. The program is a substantially separate classroom with appropriate inclusionary practices that focus on growth and independence, as well as transition planning. Therapies from related service providers follow a collaborative and consultative service model to create an environment supportive of individual development and growth. Interdisciplinary teaming provides a continuum of services that are embedded in learning opportunities throughout the school day.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Oversee programming for students in a specialized substantially-separate setting as described above. Develops, integrates and implements IEPs with clear and appropriate IEP goals and objectives. Designs and implements lesson plans and activities utilizing ACE curriculum as well as student IEP goals and objectives, Attends and participates in TEAM meetings and the evaluation process. Coordinates MCAS Alternative Assessment administration Utilizes assistive technology devices per the students' needs. Structures classroom environment to provide optimal learning opportunities. Communicates effectively with stakeholders (administration, team chair, parents) Demonstrates effective classroom management techniques utilizing ABA Plans for and incorporates inclusion opportunities across the school community, including but not limited to social, emotional, functional, and vocational skill generalization Develops an open line of communication to parents and guardians on a daily basis Develop and maintain a consistent, structured classroom environment geared to support the students' disability for which enrollment in a substantially-separate setting is required. Work with the district BCBA to develop data- taking mechanisms and analyze this data to drive instruction and monitor student progress.
QUALIFICATIONS
