Job Description

General Summary of Position:
The Intensive Outpatient Program Counselor (also referred to as IOP Counselor) plays a crucial role in LAPP's General Program, providing counseling and support to individuals navigating the challenges of addiction. As a counselor, you will contribute to the overall mission of our organization by helping clients develop coping strategies, facilitating group sessions, and promoting a supportive and therapeutic environment. This individual assesses and treats clients with mental, emotional, or substance use and addiction problems, including use of alcohol, tobacco, gambling, and/or other drugs. Provides comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based services to individuals and families affected by addiction.
Responsibilities:
Conducts individual assessments to understand clients' unique needs, challenges, and goals related to addiction recovery with primary focus on behavioral health. Provides counseling, ensuring that programming aligns with the organization's mission and values. Counsels' clients in individual sessions to assist their unique needs regarding substance issues, poverty, unemployment, or physical abuse. Facilitates group therapy sessions, addressing topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, life skills development, and the specific challenges associated with outpatient treatment. Designs, implements, and evaluates substance abuse treatment programs for LAPP's General Program. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, including medical and other Agency professionals, to ensure comprehensive and integrated outpatient care. Develops and implements treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge using person-center based practices. Monitors, evaluates, and records client progress with respect to treatment goals. Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling programs on clients' progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives. Modifies treatment activities or approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients' status. Meets with families, probation officers, caseworkers, police, or other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process. Refers clients or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary. Counsels' family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, or supporting clients. Interviews clients, reviews records, conducts assessments, or confers with other professionals to evaluate the mental or physical condition of clients. Learns about new developments in counseling by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, or establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies. Gathers information about community mental health needs or resources that could be used in conjunction with evidence-based practices. Fills out and maintains client-related paperwork, including federal-and state-mandated forms, client diagnostic records, and progress notes. Maintains accurate and confidential records and prepares reports as required by regulatory and funding agencies, such as
HIPAA 42 CFR
Part 2. Maintains accurate reporting logs, submits in a timely fashion. Meets requirements of grant funded programs. Adheres to standards of CARF, Ohio Department of Behavioral Health, and Agency procedures. Provides information to supervisors, co-workers and other areas of the organization by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person. Collaborates with administrative staff such as billing, reception, and Executive Director. Maintains productivity standards according to Agency policy. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of LSW or
LCDC III
in good standing and one year substance use counseling experience. Bachelor's or Master's degree with associated licensure such as
LSW, LISW, LCDC III, LICDC
Must be licensed to practice in the state of Ohio, fulfilling all requirements of the respective accrediting board. Proof of valid Driver's License and state minimum required personal auto insurance policy. Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental, emotional, or substance use and addiction problems, including use of alcohol, tobacco, gambling, and/or other drugs. Strong knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Aware of others' reactions and familiarity of human behavior and personality. Compassion, empathy, and a strong commitment to the mission of behavioral health barriers. Ability to effectively communicate the organization's mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community. Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation. Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software such as Zoom, Outlook email, and electronic health records system. Ability to be resourceful when faced with challenges and think outside the box. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
