We are currently hiring for the Biological Field Technician position. IPC's Sperryville Virginia Strike Team is dedicated to treating and removing invasive vegetation at the Cleremont Private wildlife Management area in Sperryville, VA. IPC's Strike Team mitigates damage from invasive plants by utilizing the most effective techniques to stop invasive plants. Crew members will spend most of their time managing invasive plants in the field.
Service Location:
Cleremont Private Wildlife Management Area, Sperryville Virginia Term of Service:
Start ASAP (full time permanent assignments) The typical workweek will be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday with hours varying from 6:00 AM-4:30 PM. Uniforms and all equipment will be provided. Invasive Plant Management Crew Functional Responsibilities This position includes one crew leader and one crew member with the ability to perform the necessary management of invasive species in a time efficient manner. The following responsibilities are required of theInvasive Management Crew:
Transfers, mixes, transports, and applies non-restricted use herbicides (NRH) and adjuvants Operates equipment as needed for the proper application of herbicides and adjuvants Operates spray apparatus, including electric pump, gas powered pumps, and hand pumps Conducts daily inspections and maintenance of equipment and spray apparatus. Adheres to label instructions and IPC Safety Guidelines in all aspects of work. Ability to correctly identify all invasive plant with minimal review, and to discriminate invasive plants from any native vegetation of similar appearance. Have a sound academic knowledge of ecological principles as they relate to vegetation management. Have a working, current knowledge of resource management methods, biological processes and vegetation sample techniques. Knowledge, ability, and willingness to handle herbicides in the course of vegetation management. Ability to mix, handle, and apply herbicides in accordance with label directions and crew supervisor instructions Ability to handle and maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in good working order for daily operations. Perform on-the-ground management Minimum Education/Degree Requirements Minimum of a B.S. degree in one of the following disciplines is required: environmental science, natural resources, biological sciences, ecology, forestry, wildlife management, or related field. Training/Certification Requirements Ability to obtain an applicators license issued from the state of Tennessee listing the appropriate application category (Forestry or right of way), current CPR card, and ability to train applicators working under his/her license. Be trained in the operation of chainsaws, brushcutters, gasoline powered sprayers. Compensation Field Technicians are compensated at $18.50-$20.50 per hour dependent upon previous experience Other Requirements Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien; pass a criminal history check of the national sex-offender registry, state repository check, FBI fingerprint check and drug test.
