Job Description
Job Summary Under the direction of the Sheriff or assigned supervisor, the Investigator carries out investigations to prevent crimes or solve criminal cases by preforming interviews of suspects, witnesses, and victims. Searches for evidence of criminal acts. Writes comprehensive and detailed reports of findings and actions. Work Environment Work is performed in a variety of field and office settings and may require exposure to natural weather conditions, dangerous and life-threatening situations. Must be willing to carry a firearm; willing to work any hour of the day or night (shift work), overtime, weekends, on-call, and holidays; work at any location in the County and travel on specific assignments. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, or another related field. Four (4) years' experience as a law enforcement officer, experience as a criminal investigator preferred. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements. Successful completion of firearms annual qualification proficiency standards. Ability to write intelligible and complete reports and deal with situations requiring tact, understanding, and good judgment; always remain alert and respond quickly in emergency situations; establish good working relationships courts, the general public, and other staff members. Ability to listen, understand and communicate verbally and in writing in English. Must successfully complete a mandatory physical exam, psychological exam, drug screen test, and background check; Must have no felony convictions or pending felony charges. Must have a valid New Mexico driver's license. Ability to work outdoors exposed to all-natural weather conditions. May not have any DWI or DUI within the last five (5) years.
