Journalist

The Jackson County Sentinel is seeking a motivated and community-focused Journalist to join our newsroom serving Jackson County, Alabama, and surrounding communities. This position is available in both full-time and part-time roles. Full-time employees are eligible for company benefits. The Journalist will be responsible for researching, writing, and reporting accurate and engaging local news stories across print and digital platforms. Coverage areas may include local government, business, education, community events, public safety, sports, and human-interest stories throughout Jackson County. Daily responsibilities include conducting interviews, attending community meetings and events, writing articles and press releases, fact-checking information, and collaborating with the editorial team to meet deadlines and produce high-quality local journalism. The ideal candidate should have strong writing and communication skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a passion for storytelling and community engagement. Experience in journalism, media, photography, social media content, broadcasting, or related fields is preferred but not required. Applicants should be dependable, detail-oriented, and eager to help deliver trusted news coverage to the local community.

Pay:

$10.00 - $17.00 per hour
